Windows 7 Monthly Security Update

April 2018:  There are 4 updates included this month for APEX+ and KPK+ systems running Windows 7.

The first, the December 2017 Security Update, is a cumulative release, containing all prior Windows 7 security updates.

The second, the January 2018 Security Update, is an incremental release.  You need to have the December 2017 Security Update installed before installing this release.  But if you had the December 2017 Security Update installed previously, you just need to install these smaller incremental releases.

The third, the February 2018 Security Update, is an incremental release.  You should install both the December 2017 Security Update and the January 2018 Security Update in addition to this release.

The fourth, the April 2018 Security Update, is an incremental release, containing both the corrected March 2018 update from Microsoft and the April 2018 update.  You should install the December 2017 Security Update, the January 2018 Security Update, and the February 2018 Security Update in addition to this release.

Microsoft offers 2 types of security updates:

A security only quality update
• A single update containing all new security fixes for that month
A security monthly quality rollup
• A single update containing all new security fixes for that month (the same ones included in the security only update released at the same time), as well as fixes from all previous monthly rollups. This can also be called the “monthly rollup.”

See https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/windowsitpro/2016/10/07/more-on-windows-7-and-windows-8-1-servicing-changes/

Since Microsoft’s rollup updates are cumulative, it’s been getting increasingly larger each month. To make the January release smaller, we are providing the first (security-only quality update) for January.  At some point, we will return to releasing the cumulative rollup updates.
