Our next Photographer Highlights feature is Mike Boden, who lives and works in California. The cover image was taken at Silver Lake in the Inyo National Forest, near Yosemite National Park. Throughout the years, Mike’s passion for black and white photography has grown and matured to the point where he ventured into large-format photography, which he continues to use to this day.
You can read more about his work on our website under “Photographer Stories”. Link in our bio.

"My analog photography journey started quite some time ago when I finished school and went on a trip to Barcelona with my best friend. Going out we met two Dutch guys who always carried this plastic thing with them that apparently could take pictures. Not a day later, we were standing in front of a photo shop and I was holding my first disposable camera. Frankly, not much has changed since then, except for the camera."
"I take pictures of places I visit and try to capture what they make me feel. I'd like to think that I've always had an eye for beautiful things, but photography has taught me to never underestimate a second look. To be patient. The thing with shooting your surroundings (landscapes, architecture, objects, etc.) is that these types of pictures, instead of telling a story about a person portrayed, they tell a story about you. Even more so if you invest the time (and money) to do it analog."
"There are pictures that feel like they reveal too much of myself, other times they have too little. Overall, my pictures tend to be very colorful, just like the sensations I experienced when taking them. I hope, looking at them, you get a sense of them too. Just as you might spot a piece of me."

Windmills are one of my favorite prairie subjects, and one that is rapidly disappearing as they fall apart and get replaced with cheaper and lower maintenance solar water pumps. Every spring I ride my bike far out onto the plains to camp beside one of these, listening to it clatter away in the breeze all night long. The first two images are the same windmill, starting with the sunset view as a storm cell passed by and the next was at sunrise the following morning on a lush green prairie. Thank you for joining me on this takeover journey! Today is the last post, so it's time to hand the keys back to Kodak.
Barns, homesteads, and grain elevators: icons of the prairie. Some of my recent work from endless miles of chasing dirt roads, dead ends, and dust. Often captured during the most vibrant time of day, but using Portra to calm down the colors. These are most certainly meant to go together as a series, but do any of these stand out as particularly strong to you?
